Retreat Weekend

Hi All - Haven't posted in a while. I've been in Houston for Quilt Market and then came home to no power but it did come back on for the shop's 11th Anniversary Sale. Worked four days for that and then headed to Cape Cod for our annual retreat last Wednesday. My sister is here too, so it's fun spending time with her. All I brought with me was UFO's so I have some things put together.

The first thing I worked on was a double wedding ring that I am paper piecing the arcs and realized I forgot the papers at home. Finished the ones I had started and moved on to the next project!

This was the second thing I did. It's an old Thimbleberries pattern that was meant to be used as a charity quilt but I was doing this for a friend of mine. I ended up short 4 2 1/2 squares so worked around the hole it left. I have some at home so it will go home a UFO too! That's my sister in the space but I thought it would be a good place to stick your feet through when you're having a hot flash!

This was the next thing I worked on. I took a school house class from Martie Michel in Houston and this was her design. Four fat quarters make the four blocks and then just added borders. Though it might make a good class for the next session.

I had these blocks done some time ago but never put them together. I think it went together very nicely and am really pleased with it. The nice part is that I already know how I want to quilt it!

I thought I would be a little artsy and take a picture of my bindings all ready to go! Looks kind of cute!

One day left to sew away and then pack up and head for home! Will miss my sister til I see her again! Happy Quilting!

Nice Weekend

It is a beautiful autumn day that seems like it should have happened in August. We were invited to some friends that live in a beach front community on the CT shore.  We walked the beach both days we were there, had our feet in the water, with the sun shining bright.
We also had our dog with us!  He was afraid of the noise my camera lens makes and started barking at it! This was the resulting picture!
Nice weekend!  Good friends, good food, good time!
Happy sewing,  Michelle

New Addition

I normally drive a Janome 6600 but I needed a new reliable second machine. I have my old Bernina 1630 but it has been having some electrical issues.  It made a trip back to the Bernina factory this summer and of course didn't do the craziness for them, sat on a work table all day and behaved itself.  So it came home with nothing done to it.  The first time I plugged it in the needle went crazy and the screen froze!  So, my sister is flying in for our retreat in November and I needed to have a machine for her to use to so....meet Flo!  If you want to know where her name came from you have to ask. So she joins my sewing machine family.  Besides the 6600 and old Bernina, I also have 4 featherweights (3 black, 1 white),  and old Bernina Deco for embroidery, a blind hemmer, a ruffling machine and of course the Gammill.  Flo should feel right at home!  Happy sewing,   Michelle

Friday Quilting

Friday is my day off from the shop so I usually do a custom quilt at home.  I like doing custom work when the sun is up rather than after a long day at the shop and after dinner.  So this is what was on the machine yesterday....

It is a block of the month from the shop called Chestnut and Vine. This customer did two of them too so I still have another one to do!!

My First Post

I have been wanting to do this for some time so I am finally giving this a try.  I'm not really happy with the look of my blog but haven't found the time to research how to make it pretty.  I bought Blogging for Dummies but can't find the time to read it.  It has even made a couple of trips with me and hasn't been read!  I quilt...a lot!  When I am not quilting on my Gammill Classic Plus, I am piecing a few things for myself. Needless to say, I do not get much finished!  After reading a bunch of blogs about quilters making the Farmers Wife quilt, I decided to give it a try too.  So far I have 15 blocks done and I will now try to attach a picture of them!

I did it!!! I added the picture but then it showed up on top of the text so I went to the HTML programming and figured out how to move it below!  This could be fun!  After I took this picture this afternoon, I cut out 10 more of the blocks that don't need templates.  Once they are cut they sew up pretty quick so hopefully I can fit them in here and there!  Til next time....Michelle
